Food Intolerance and Food Allergy

There is a lot of confusion about the terms food intolerance and food allergy, and the differences between them.  Many people think they have had food allergy when their symptoms can sometimes indicate food intolerance instead.

Food Intolerances – IgG mediated - are often characterised by delayed reactions occurring days after ingestion. Continuous consumption of the offending foods weakens the resistance of the subject. A weak defence enables illness to develop and often leads to chronic conditions. Whilst not life-threatening, food intolerance can have a negative impact on many aspects of daily life.

Classical Allergy to food - IgE mediated reaction – is characterised by an immediate onset of symptoms, usually within a few hours. Symptoms often take the form of skin rashes, swelling of lips and throat, or difficulty with breathing.

“What is food to one man may be fierce poison to another”

Many medical practitioners share reasonable scepticism about this association of food intolerance and long-term-illness. The reason behind this is that the tests performed by private nutritional clinics claiming to be able to pinpoint the culprit food were highly unreliable.

Because of the delay between eating the food and the onset of symptoms, it is extremely difficult to identify the cause of the reaction without laboratory testing. The Food Intolerance Tests cover a panel of foods commonly eaten in the typical European diet.

The LORISIAN food-specific IgG method has had more scientific papers published about its performance than any other food intolerance test on the market.  It has been clinically proven that  once foods identified by the YORKTEST IgG Food Intolerance Test are eliminated from the diet significant symptomatic improvements are achieved.

The studies include two independent randomised controlled trials.  In addition the largest of its kind, commisioned by the UK medical charity Allergy UK, with over 5,000 participants, provided evidence of moderate to high benefit in their chronic ill health symptoms after using the service.

Symptoms of common chronic illnesses and conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), asthma, eczema, migraines, arthritis and general continuous poor health have been long associated with FOOD INTOLERANCE.

A high proportion of people who have excluded foods to which they have tested positive have shown a marked improvement in their quality of life, and for many these improvements are “life-changing”. Furthermore, the range of health problems where improvement has occurred is much wider than was originally thought.

The LORISIAN test involves a blood test which we send abroad to a laboratory in the U.K.

Lorisian offers 3 tests that offer different numbers of ingredients tested:

Lorisian / 75            Analyses your IgG antibody reaction to 75 food ingredients

Lorisian / 100           Analyses your IgG antibody reaction to 100 food ingredients

Lorisian / 150           Analyses your IgG antibody reaction to 150 food ingredients

N.B. The Food Intolerance Test DOES NOT identify classical allergies.
